SDPI asks govt to consult Muslim bodies before finalizing Waqf Bill

By TCN News,

New Delhi: The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) rejected the proposed amendment Waqf Bill saying that some major recommendations of the Joint Parliament Committee (JPC) and Sachar Committee Report have been ignored, and demanded due consultation with the representative bodies of the Muslim community before finalizing the law.

The SDPI’s two-day National Working Committee (NCW) meeting which concluded here on July 3 also expressed that mere enactment of Lokpal Bill would not prove a panacea for the disease of corruption unless it is appointed through a fool proof method and not as an individual but as a body of competent persons.

The meeting strongly condemned harassment and persecution of genuinely working organizations and individuals such as Popular Front of India (PFI), Tablighi Jamaat, People’s Union for Civil Liberty, (PUCL), Dalit Human Rights Movement, ANHAD and some Christian groups working in Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Orissa.

In order to strength the party and prepare its cadres in all parts of the country, SDPI decided to launch membership campaign drive giving special attention on Bihar and UP and has fixed a target of 10 lakh in coming three months.

At the meeting, a number of departments such as political affairs, general administration, women’s wing, education & training, research, media, trade unions, NRI, fund raising and legal affairs were constituted and the responsibilities of each department were assigned to various NWC members.

The meeting adopted several resolutions on different issues including reservation for Muslims, release of innocent Muslims implicated in bomb blast cases, atrocities against Dalits, nuclear plants, poverty line and Haj Affairs.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mahboob Sharif was made in-charge of AP, Maharashtra, and Kerala, A Sayeed to Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Goa, M. K. Faizi to Rajasthan, West Bengal, Assam & Manipur, Hafiz Manzoor Ali Khan to Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, UP and Uttarakhand and Abdul Rashid Agwan to Delhi, Haryana and Punjab.
