New Delhi : The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is being trained to tackle Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) as many of its men get killed by hidden explosives.
“The IEDs have been a major cause of death, particularly in Maoist areas. To tackle this, we have sought the help of the army,” a CRPF officer told IANS.
He said that identifying, detecting and defusing IEDs was challenging and special training was necessary as they were hidden at a depth of around 15 feet.
“Around 80 officers and soldiers in two batches are (taking) training in Pune. There are plans to extend this to other states,” the officer added.
