Toronto : Expressing outrage over the repeat terrorist attacks on Mumbai, top Indo-Canadian leader Ujjal Dosanjh Thursday said that India will have to change its gameplan to defeat terrorism.
“The fresh attacks show that India will have to do a lot more to secure itself. It should be in the forefront to coordinate efforts to fight global terrorism,” the former Canadian health minister told IANS.
“I am very concerned that despite India’s tough security measures, its top and world-class city is not secure from repeated terrorist attacks. This shows India has a lot more to do to fight terrorism,” said Dosanjh.
But he also cautioned that “there should be no finger-pointing internally or externally without knowing the evidence. This is very important to maintain harmony and order.”
The Canada-India Inter-parliamentary Friendship Group (CIIFG) and the Canada India Foundation (CIF) also condemned the Mumbai bomb blasts.
Conveying his condolences to the families of the victims, Patrick Brown, co-chairperson of the Canada-India Inter-parliamentary Friendship Group, said Canadians stood by India in their fight against the scourge of terrorism.
“Canada remains united with the government and people of India in their fight against terror,” he said, echoing the statement of Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
Brown, who has visited India many times and is termed a friend of the country, hoped that India is taking all steps to quickly bring the perpetrators of the crime to justice.
Expressing support for the Indian people in their hour of tragedy, Canada-India Foundation chairman Barj Dhahan said they have shown “remarkable resilience in refusing to let acts of terror divide them.”
Urging the world community to stand by India, he said, “The need of the hour is for all countries to denounce these and similar acts unequivocally and for individuals not to let extremism dictate their actions.”
