Thiruvananthapuram : The Kerala assembly speaker Wednesday formed a nine-member committee of legislators to probe whether rules were flouted to appoint former chief minister V.S. Achuthanandan’s son as the director of a state-run IT institute early this year.
Speaker G. Karthikeyan said the committee, headed by Congress leader V.D. Sateeshan, includes four legislators each from the opposition and treasury benches.
The matter was raised in the assembly July 12, when Congress legislator P.C. Vishnunath presented documents which allegedly showed that rules were violated during during the Marxist veteran’s reign as the chief minister to appoint his son V.A. Arunkumar as director of ICT Academy in February.
Achuthanandan, now the leader of opposition, denied the charges and said the matter should be inquired by an assembly committee.
The issue first came to light through a Right to Information (RTI) query by R.S. Sasikumar, a former joint registrar of the Kerala University.
