Shahina was accused of intimidating the witnesses in the 2008 Bengaluru blast case. She had interviewed two witnesses in Kodagu (Karnataka) in November 2010 when she was working as Kerala correspondent of the ‘Tehelka’ magazine. The report published in the magazine stated that the witnesses – Rafeeq and Yogananda – had spoken to Shahina contradicting the police version. Shahina also said in the report that she was followed by the police and asked to return without meeting the witnesses, but she did not. The Karnataka police then registered case against Shahina and four others accusing them of intimidating the witnesses. Shahina was later charged with sections of the UAPA also.

She approached the Karnataka High Court as her anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Madikkeri Sessions Court on January 7, 2011. She submitted the plea in the HC on January 12 via Adv BN Jagadeesh and Adv BT Venkatesh.
