Kolkata: Accusing the central government of dilly-dallying over the cash-for-vote scam issue for three years, Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) central committee member Md. Salim Friday alleged that it had ignored his note of dissent as a member of the all-party panel that probed the issue.
“I had given a note of dissent in the report of the all-party committee that was formed to go into the scam-related issues. But the report was not duly recorded at the instance of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government,” Salim told mediapersons here.
Salim said though the matter related to the confidence vote secured by the UPA government in the Lok Sabha 2008 the regime had kept the matter hanging for three years.
“They did not do anything till the government came in for criticism from the court,” he said.
On July 22, 2008, three BJP MPs waved wads of currency notes on the floor of the Lok Sabha ahead of the trust vote the UPA-I government was taking. They claimed they were given the money to vote in favour of the Manmohan Singh government.
The vote was called after the Left parties withdrew support over the Indo-US nuclear agreement.
