Bhubaneswar : State-run National Aluminium Company Ltd. (NALCO) has received the final forest clearance to renew its bauxite mining operation in Orissa’s Koraput district, the company said Monday.
NALCO received the clearance July 20 for diversion of 110.3 hectares of forest land in Panchpatmali south block for its bauxite mining operations.
The state government earlier sought the approval of the central government for the diversion of the forest land. The original lease period for the south block expired after 30 years of mining.
The latest approval will help the Bhubaneswar-headquartered company to get its mining lease renewed for another 20 years, it said.
