Thiruvananthapuram: The Muslim Samyuktha Vedi will march to the Kerala Raj Bhavan tomorrow demanding release of PDP chairman Abdunnasir Maudany who is presently in Karnataka jail in connection with the 2008 Bengaluru blast.
The march will begin at 10 am from the Museum Junction and Syed Shahabudeen, former chairman of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, will inaugurate it in front of the Raj Bhavan. A Sampath (MP), KT Jaleel, PTA Raheem, Jameela Prakasom and Palode Ravi (MLAs), former minister Neelalohithadasan Nadar and media critic Bha Surendrababu will attend the march along with representatives of the Muslim League, INL, Jamat e Islami, PFI, SDPI, KMYF, Solidarity, Al Hadi Association, Mahall Imam Aikyavedi, Nadvis Association, etc, according to reports.
State office-bearers of the Samyuktha Vedi called on the state government to put an end to its dangerous silence when a noted citizen is subjected to human rights violations in another state. Chairman Pachallur Abdussaleem Moulavi, Abdul Majeed Amani, TA Jamal Muhammed and Mailakkad Shah spoke at the press conference.
Meanwhile, noted intellectual KEN Kunjahammed opined that total violation of human rights was going on in the case of Maudany. It has been proved that Maudany had suffered unreasonable torture in Coimbatore jail, and that was a judicial disaster. No human rights or constitution in the world allows punishment without trial. Human rights should be followed even if a person is found guilty, but nothing was followed in the case of Maudany. KEN was speaking at a public meeting organised by the Kozhikode chapter of the Justice for Maudany Forum.
Kerala’s PDP chairman Abdunnasir Maudany is 31st accused in the 2008 Bengaluru blasts, and he was arrested by the Karnataka police from Kerala on August 17, 2010, when he was on his way to surrender in court. He was in police custody for ten days, after which he was remanded to judicial custody which has been extended since. He was earlier denied anticipatory bail and later bail by various courts. His bail plea is presently in the Supreme Court where it will be considered next month. Maudany was earlier jailed in Tamil Nadu for long nine and half years for his alleged role in the Coimbatore blasts, but was found innocent and released in 2007.
