New Delhi : Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Thursday mourned the death of celebrated artist M.F. Husain, describing him as a “painter who promoted modern art in India”.
“I am grieved by the demise of the renowned painter Maqbool Fida Husain,” Dikshit said in a statement.
Husain, who rose from painting cinema hoardings to becoming one of the world’s most celebrated artists, died in a London hospital early Thursday at the age of 95.
He was living away from India in self-imposed exile after being targeted by Hindu radicals.
