Kolkata: The railway’s safety panel has begun its inquiry into Wednesday’s derailment of Howrah-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, a railway statement said Thursday.
“The Commissioner of Railway Safety (Eastern Circle), R.P. Yadav, under the ministry of civil aviation, government of India, will hold a statutory inquiry into the derailment case June 17,” a release issued by the Eastern Railway said.
A major train accident was averted Wednesday after two pairs of front wheels of the engine of the New Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express went off the rails at Gangpur station near Burdwan Junction on the Shaktigarh-Burdwan section of Eastern Railway’s Howrah Division. However, no injury or casualty was reported.
“Members of the public having knowledge about the accident have been urged to appear and tender evidence or write to the Commissioner of Railway Safety,” said the release.
