“Such shameless incidents were taking place in the state because the administration is totally useless and the law and order situation is the state is rotting,” party general secretary and Uttar Pradesh in-charge Digvijay Singh told reporters here.

He said that that inefficiency and corruption was plaguing the police force as officers were just interested in getting “plum” postings and were busy making money.

“It isn’t the fault of the state police but the BSP government and its leaders have pressurised them so much that the police are no longer able to work efficiently and are just interested in plum postings,” Digvijay Singh added.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi said Mayawati and the state government should be ashamed.

“People expected more from a woman chief minister but she doesn’t have a word of sympathy. She tries to shelter the police. The criminals and the police are all hand in glove,” Joshi told reporters.

A 14-year-old Dalit girl in an Uttar Pradesh village was blinded with a knife by two boys when she resisted their rape attempt. The girl was admitted to the Kanpur Medical College.

The girl was attacked Friday by two high school students in Gursahaiganj in Kannauj district, about 180 km from Lucknow. They stalked her near a field and assaulted her when she resisted rape.
