UP Human Right Commission directs hospital to bear medical expenses of a widow

The UP Human Rights Commission (UPHRC) has issued directives to CSM Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University (CSMMU), Lucknow for bearing the medical expenses of a widow with heart ailments. The commission passed the aforesaid order after the petitioner pleaded that she has no means to meet the surgery expenses.

As per reports, Rabia Begum of Hasangaj, Unnao approached the UPHRC with a plea that she is suffering from valve blockage. After her check-up at Cardio Thoracic Vascular Surgery (CTVS), CSMMU the doctors informed her that there will be an expense of Rs 1, 70000. As her husband had died due to cancer she had no means to meet the expenses.

Chairman, UPHRC, Justice Vishnu Kant Sahai in his order stated that as per the apex court’s guideline it is the fundamental right of life guaranteed by article 21 of the constitution is the right to medical aid. Justice Sahai directed the V-C CSMMU to get the surgery of the widow done free of cost at the earliest.
