Lokpal should only monitor ministers: Bansal

By IANS,

New Delhi: Parliamentary Affairs Minister P.K. Bansal Tuesday said the proposed Lokpal should only monitor ministers to tackle corruption since it is difficult to manage all government employees.

“I don’t think managing 1.21 million employees of the state and the central government would be an easy job for the Lokpal. Can one body take decisions on matters concerning millions of people,” Bansal told reporters here.

“Lokpal should only monitor the ministers if it wants to tackle corruption. That will be sufficient,” he added.

The minister slammed the opposition for accusing the government that it was delaying the monsoon session.

“It’s amazing to hear such comments from the opposition. Who has told them that we have changed the date of the session? Who gave them this date? We never told them anything about it,” said Bansal.

He further added that the duration of the session has been increased so that everybody hears each other and meaningful debates and discussions can take place thus helping in the framing of a strong Lokpal.

“I would advise the opposition to utilise this time and come up with some good suggestions instead of making unnecessary allegations,” said Bansal.

Bansal had earlier announced that the monsoon session, which generally begins mid-July, will be held from Aug 1 to Sep 8.
