London : Around 750,000 public sector workers, including teachers from 17,000 schools across Britain, will stage a protest Thursday against the government’s proposed changes to their pension, a media report said.
The protesters also include lecturers and civil servants, the Daily Express reported.
Union leaders have said the “unfair” pension changes mean staff will have to work longer, pay more and get less when they retire.
The University and College Union said it was expecting “significant disruption” at 350 colleges and 75 universities.
Union general secretary Sally Hunt said: “Staff in further education colleges and universities will be walking out because they recognise the unfairness of the government’s proposals.”
“This is a government that has already presided over an increase in the income of the richest 1,000 people by 18 percent, yet still has the nerve to call hard-working teachers’ pensions gold-plated,” she said.
