London: Nine years have passed since the Gujarat organized riot that took place on 28th February 2002 killing thousands of Muslims and destroying their properties but the horrible picture of that is so much fresh in the memory of Indian Muslims as it happened a day before thanks to continuous atrocities on Muslims by the state government.
On the ninth anniversary of the massacre, Chairman of Council of Indian Muslims—UK (CIM), Munaf Zeena said that the horrific crimes committed by fascists with the connivance of Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi are “unforgivable and unforgettable.”
He extended his praising words towards NGOs, journalists and activists like Teesta Seetalvad and Harsh Mandar who have been working to get justice for Gujarat Muslims. “We salute these brave souls who have left no stone unturned in bringing the atrocious crimes committed against Muslims to light. They have been unmasking the myth of vibrant Gujarat. They have proved beyond doubt that in contrast to the gangs of fascists led by Narendra Modi, India is a land of civilized and gallant people who stand for humanity, fairness and justice” he said.
Mr. Zeena expressed anguish over the news that Narendra Modi is likely to be issued visa to Canada and appealed to all countries not to issue visa to Modi and his accomplices. “Canada and other countries need to learn a lesson from German MPs Ute Granold and Pascal Kober who, during their visit to Gujarat in April 2010 compared Modi’s Gujarat with Hitler’s Germany” he said.
In his reaction to the Special Court’s verdict on Godhra train burning on 27 Feb 2002, that gave Narendra Modi an excuse to justify the killings of Gujarati Muslims, he said: “We are pleased at the acquittal of 63 innocent persons including a leading religious scholar Maulana Hussain Ibrahim Umarji. Now we urge them to sue Modi government for compensation for keeping them in prisons, harassing their families and thus destroying their lives. We also urge other 31 who have been convicted to challenge the decision.”
