Chandigarh : The Punjab government Wednesday set up a rehabilitation cell in the state headquarters here to help migrants of Punjab-origin returning from strife-torn Libya.
“To facilitate the rehabilitation of immigrants of Punjab-origin from Libya after the political turmoil there, the Punjab government has constituted a ‘Rehabilitation Cell’ (phone 0172-2740173) under the chair of Director-Disaster Management Bhawna Garg here in the Punjab Civil Secretariat,” said a state government spokesman.
The decision to set up the cell was taken by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal at a meeting here.
The spokesman said that an apex committee headed by Chief Secretary S.C. Agarwal and comprising Financial Commissioner Revenue A.R. Talwar, Principal Secretary-Home D.S. Bains and Principal Secretary to Chief Minister D.S. Guru has been constituted to look into policy issues involved in the rehabilitation process.
The state government has also set up a help desk at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi under the supervision of Punjab’s resident commissioner in the capital for assisting immigrants from Libya to reach home comfortably, the spokesman added.
