Azamgarh: In order to create awareness among the local Muslim community to use RTI Act for getting all kinds of information from government departments, RTI activist Afroz Alam Sahil along with other social activists visited Azamgargh district of UP.
During his tour he also visited Shibli National College on 28th Feb. where he interacted with officials, teachers and students. He highlighted various aspects of RTI through power point presentation which included two short documentaries. After seeing the documentary where villagers of U.P. were seeking information on plain paper, forcing the authorities to relent, students opened up and posed quite a few questions.
Notably, Afroz was instrumental in getting vital information on various topics through persistent RTI applications. Azamgarh’s sullied reputation, thanks to yellow journalism, got a clearance when Afroz’s RTI appeals brought forth the autopsy reports of Atif and Sajid (Sanjarpur boys, studying in Delhi, who were shot dead in the fake Batla House encounter in Jamia Nagar area of New Delhi on 19 Sep. 2008). It was a tremendous boost for those who had faith in the character of young educated Muslims of the community.
