Lucknow : A six-year-old girl and her infant cousin met a horrific death when they fell into a cauldron of hot oil being used to prepare a marriage feast in Balrampur town of Uttar Pradesh, police said Tuesday.
Aanchal, along with her nine-month-old cousin Aadarsh, died of multiple burns they received late Monday in the incident in Sadullanagar Bazar area. The cauldron, supported over a fire, contained hot oil.
“According to eyewitnesses, while Aanchal was passing through the cooking area, she had Aadarsh in her lap. When she moved closer to the cauldron, she lost her balance and fell into it with her cousin,” police inspector P.P. Kushwaha told reporters Tuesday in Balrampur, some 300 km from Lucknow.
“Though the cooks managed to take the children out within minutes, the two died while being taken to hospital. They had burns right from head to toe,” he added.
Aanchal along with her cousin had gone to attend the marriage function organised in their neighbourhood.
