Japan was hit Friday morning by an earthquake that measured 8.9 on the Richter scale, triggering tsunami that caused huge devastation.

All Shinkansen Bullet trains were halted, Xinhua quoted local media as reporting.

Japan’s islands of Honshu and Kyushu are linked by a network of high-speed train lines that connect Tokyo with most of the country’s major cities. Japan’s Bullet trains are called shinkansen and are operated by Japan Railways.

The Bullet trains are known for punctuality, comfort, efficiency and, of course, speed.
