Chandigarh : Timely action by officials in Haryana’s Sirsa district has prevented three minor girls from being married off by their families, a spokesman said here Friday.
Sirsa district child marriage prevention officer Sadhna Mittal prevented three minor girls from being forcibly married at three different places in the district, he added.
Mittal and local police apprised the girls’ parents and relatives that marrying a minor would be illegal and punishable under the Child Marriage Act.
The families of the underage girls have given written assurance to postpone the marriage till the girls attained marriageable age (18 years).
Mittal, who received information that a 15-year-old girl from Kussar village was to be married to a resident of Rajasthan, contacted Sirsa police to take action.
The other two cases were from Bhadolyawai and Bappan villages.
