Rajya Sabha adjourned thrice as opposition targets Bansal

New Delhi : The Rajya Sabha was disrupted thrice Monday as opposition members sought a discussion on the alleged involvement of Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal in a kiosk allotment scam in Chandigarh.

The disruptions started as soon as the house met for the day, with members of the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies in a raised pitch demanding a discussion on Bansal’s involvement in the alleged allocations, forcing the house to be adjourned till 12 noon.

Soon after zero hour, the opposition members raised the issue again at 1 p.m. demanding a discussion, leading the House to be adjourned till 2 p.m. and again till 3 p.m.

Samajwadi Party members, meanwhile, sought to raise the issue of alleged atrocities on its party workers in Uttar Pradesh.

The house later resumed the debate on the general budget, begun Thursday, with Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee giving his reply.
