“From Jan 1, 2008, to Feb 15, 2011, 862 non-Himachalis were granted permission by the government to purchase agriculture land,” Revenue Minister Gulab Singh informed the assembly in a written reply.

The rules related to purchase of land in the state are laid down in the Himachal Pradesh Tenancy and Land Reforms Act.

The opposition Congress has been accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of favouring a number of private companies and universities by allowing them to buy land in the state by relaxing the norms.
