New Delhi: The central government Wednesday told the Delhi High Court that life insurance policy premiums from its disabled employees will be charged after assessing their health profile.
Additional Solicitor General A.S. Chandhiok told the division bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Sanjiv Khanna that the government was considering if the premiums from various categories of disabled government employees should be charged after assessing their health.
The court was hearing a public interest litigation filed by visually impaired professor Vikas Gupta, who sought parity with the general employees in terms of benefits.
“The premium demanded for the category of disabled employees and the extent of handicap differs from one person to another. It has been decided that the premium shall be decided upon the health profile of the individual,” Chandhiok stated in an affidavit filed before the bench.
