Beijing : Investors in China’s Shanghai city are still interested in the property market of Japan that was hit by a giant tsunami following a massive earthquake, a media report said Friday.

Japanese property developers at an overseas property exhibition in Shanghai attracted some investors, China Daily reported.

“Most of the properties we presented at the exhibition are located in the western area of Japan such as Kobe and Osaka, which are hardly affected by the earthquake,” said an official of an Osaka-based investment and consulting company.

A 9.0 magnitude earthquake rocked Japan March 11, spawning a tsunami that caused devastation along the coastal areas. The disaster has left over 5,000 people dead.

Investors are concerned over housing safety more than the price. Exhibitors have tried to emphasise the earthquake-safe quality of their houses and the property insurance of their housing, China Daily quoted China News Agency as reporting.

The media report said that houses in Tokyo are no longer Japanese developers’ best recommendation due to the temblor.
