Mumbai : Following the Supreme Court stay on his bail, Pune stud farm owner Hasan Ali Khan, alleged to be the country’s top tax evader, surrendered to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) late Thursday, his lawyer said.
“Mr Khan has surrendered to the Mumbai office of the ED at 10.30 p.m.,” Khan’s lawyer I. P. Bagaria told IANS.
The Supreme Court had earlier Thursday stayed a Mumbai court’s order granting bail to Hasan Ali Khan, and granted his immediate custody to the ED for four days.
An apex court bench of Justice B. Sudarshan Reddy and Justice S.S. Nijjar
said it was doing so in the face of extraordinary situations and the complexity of the situations involved in the money laundering cases against Khan the ED is probing.
The court also expressed its bewilderment over the detailed order of Mumbai’s principal sessions judge M.L. Tahilyani refusing the ED custodial interrogation of Khan and granting him bail.
