Kolkata: The Election Commission (EC) is keeping a watch on three-four officers, including police superintendents and district magistrates, in poll-bound West Bengal for “not working neutrally”, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) S.Y. Quraishi said Wednesday.
“We have three to four officers of different levels under observation for not working neutrally. These officers include police superintendent and district magistrate,” Quraishi told reporters.
“By and large the officers are bright and doing good job. Somehow, historically we have heard that the bureaucracy is divided on political lines but we did not see too much of that in evidence. Three or four officers are under observation, we are sure that all will conduct themselves very well,” he said.
He also said that most of the political parties Tuesday complained of rude behaviour by some election officials while enforcing the model code of conduct.
“Conduct is very very important, but there will be no question of rudeness. There will be full courtesy and we have advised the election officials to take care of this,” Quraishi added.
