Azad meets Ahmadinejad

New Delhi : India’s Health and Family Welfare Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, on a two-day trip to Iran, Saturday called on Iranian President Ahmadinejad, an official statement here said.

Azad is representing India at the Nowruz (Iranian New Year) festival.

During his meeting with Ahmadinejad, Azad conveyed the greetings of the people of India on the occasion of Nowruz and recalled the close historical, cultural, economic and political relations between India and Iran.

He also expressed the hope that further strengthening of relations between India and Iran would benefit the region in general and for both the countries in particular.

“Expressing similar sentiments, President Ahmadinejad conveyed that Iran attaches high value to the relations with India. He said, the aim of holding Nowruz celebrations is to bring together people and foster peace in the region,” the statement said.

Several heads of state and senior ministers from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Uzbekistan and other nations are participating in the event.
