New Delhi : Suresh Kalmadi, former Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chief who is now lodged in Tihar Jail, Friday moved his bail application before a trial court.
Special Judge Dharmesh Sharma accepted his application and posted the matter for arguments for May 9.
“The matter will be taken up Monday for arguments on the bail application,” the court said.
Kalmadi, 66, is lodged in Tihar jail since May 4. He was arrested by the CBI April 25, for allegedly buying TSR (timing scoring and result) equipment from a Swiss firm, Swiss Timing, at inflated price of Rs.141 crore for the mefa event.
The Lok Sabha MP from Pune, who was suspended by the Congress after his arrest, has been booked for offences punishable under sections 120 (b) (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating) and 467, 468 and 471 (relating to forgery).
The CBI had named Kalmadi and his close aides A.S.V. Prasad and Surjit Lal as “main functionaries and key personnel”.
In all, 13 organising committee officials have been arrested so far. Among them are Lalit Bhanot, former secretary general of the organising committee, and V.K. Verma, who was its director general. The other officials are T.S. Darbari, Sanjay Mahindroo, M Jayachandran, Shekhar Deorukhkar, K. Udai Kumar Reddy, Binu Nanu, Sandeep Wadhwa and Praveen Bakshi.
