“I have not contested elections to become a minister. I will perform any job entrusted by (Trinamool Congress chief) Mamata Banerjee,” Mitra said after defeating state Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta by 26,154 votes from Khardaha constituency in North 24 Parganas.

“I want to be part of the historic change in West Bengal. I said earlier that we will win the elections if free and fair polls took place,” he said.

He has been Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) secretary general since 1994.

Mitra, a Ph.D. from Duke University in the US, is widely tipped to be finance or industry minister in the Trinamool Congress-led government in the state.
