New Delhi: The Delhi High Court Wednesday issued notice to the central government on a petition challenging the appointment of the Railway Board chairman.
A bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Sanjiv Khanna asked the government to respond by Aug 17.
According to the petitioner Suresh Tripathi, editor of the Paripurn Railway Samachar newspaper, Vivek Sahai was illegally appointed the chairman of the Railway Board.
He alleged that despite several corruption cases against Sahai, he was appointed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Tripathi also pleaded before the bench that Sahai should not be granted any further extension till the Central Bureau of Investigate (CBI) investigates the cases against him.
Tripathi’s counsel K.B. Upadhyay said: “By the acts and deeds of Sahai, each and every citizen of India is affected directly or indirectly”.
