Badal pushes for government jobs for sportspersons

Chandigarh: Sportspersons from Punjab, including Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra, who have brought glory to the state in various sporting events will be given government jobs, the government said Friday.

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal Friday directed the state’s sports department to immediately initiate action to provide government jobs to eligible sportspersons in recognition of their achievements.

Badal asked the sports department to clear all such pending cases within the ambit of sports policy on priority.

Appointment letters will also be issued to Commonwealth games medallists Avneet Sidhu and Ronjan Sodhi.

Badal also asked the sports department to move the state cabinet for seeking exemption in the minimum educational requirements in the case of six sportspersons, who did not fulfil the prescribed conditions for appointment to government jobs.
