Jharkhand reduces VAT on edible oil

Ranchi: The Jharkhand cabinet Saturday reduced value added tax (VAT) on edible oil from four to one and half percent and reduced taxes on agriculture markets from two to one percent, officials said.

“VAT on edible oils has been reduced from four to one and half per cent,” Cabinet Secretary Aditya Swaroop told reporters after the meeting.

The cabinet also cleared a sum of Rs.161 crore to provide 20 kg rice at Re.1 per kg to additional 11 lakh below poverty line (BPL) families. These 11 lakh BPL families are in addition to 23 lakh BPL families recognized by the central government, and already are getting 35 kg rice at Re.1 per kg from the state government.

A Rs.100 crore grant to the Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB) was also approved at the meeting.
