Karachi: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has cancelled the leave of its coach Waqar Younis, asking him to return home from Ireland and be part of a probe into reports of rift within the team management.

According to sources, Waqar was supposed to return to his family in Sydney from Ireland where Pakistan is playing in an ODI series but the PCB has summoned him to Lahore later this week to probe reports that former captain Shahid Afridi and Waqar fell out during the tour of West Indies earlier this month.

On his return from the Caribbean, Afridi hinted that he was upset with Waqar’s role after which the PCB removed him from captaincy and decided to appoint Misbah-ul-Haq as the ODI captain.

“The Board will carry out a comprehensive probe which is why it wants Waqar in Lahore,” said a source.

Meanwhile, Waqar has refused to speculate on the possibility of Afridi returning as Pakistan’s ODI captain.

“I have got no idea about that. It is the Cricket Board’s decision what they want to do about the captaincy,” Waqar told reporters in Belfast.

The former Pakistan captain also denied reports he had fallen out with Afridi, after claims the all-rounder had also been unhappy with his role with the team.

“It was the papers that made all this,” he added. “There is nothing in it.”
