Karachi: Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi Tuesday quit international cricket, saying he will not play under the present board which sacked him as captain of the One-day International team.
Afridi said he will continue to play in domestic and league matches.
“There is nothing bigger than a man’s respect, and the way the board has treated me, there is a limit to everything,” Afridi told Geo TV.
“I will not play under this board. If a different board comes in, I will definitely return but I cannot play under this board. When you have been humiliated like this, by dishonourable people, what is the point in playing on?”
“I can’t play under a board that doesn’t respect its players. Because of this, under protest, this is a conditional retirement,” he said.
“This board gave me no reason nor did it bother to hear me out before sacking me as captain.”
Afridi was named captain of Pakistan team for the World Cup two weeks before the tournament. Pakistan lost to India in the semi-final of the World Cup.
Afridi was sacked as captain after the just-concluded series against the West Indies. Misbah ul Haq is leading the side for the two ODIs against Ireland.
