The incident took place in Hagadera in northeastern Kenya near the Kenya-Somalia border, police told Xinhua.

The vehicle with six police officers was leaving the Hagadera police station, when it stumbled on the device.

“The device failed to explode when the vehicle went over it. There was no explosion and there was no destruction, everybody is safe,” provincial commissioner James ole Serian said.

A police driver said the device emitted smoke but did not explode. Police described it as a “home-made explosive”.

Operatives of Al Shabaab terrorist outfit, disguised as local civilians, mostly target Kenyan security agents and the paramilitary wing of the police during operations around the border region.
