New Delhi : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Tuesday expressed grief over the stampede tragedy in Haridwar and sanctioned financial assistance to the families of those killed and injured.
“The Prime Minister is grieved over the loss of lives in the Haridwar stampede,” a release from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said.
The families of those killed will get Rs.1 lakh each and those seriously injured will get Rs.50,000 each, the release added.
At least, 16 people were killed and scores injured in a horrific stampede at a religious event in the Hindu holy town when tens of thousands had packed the banks of the Ganges, reports said.
