New Delhi : Literature will seek out children at their places of study with the Aviva Bookaroo Children’s Literature Festival opening a series of workshops and interactions between writers, artists and children in school.
“Bookaroo In the City” is an outreach programme of the Bookaroo Festival that will culminate in the actual literature festival Nov 25-27, a statement by the organisers said. The awareness campaign which began Nov 8 will end Nov 24.
Children’s writers and illustrators like Anupa Lal, Tapas Guha, Deepa Agarwal, Mala Kumar and Tanya Luther Aggarwal, John Dougherty, Satoshi Kitamura and Adeline Foo will visit schools across the capital to engage children in creative literature and related genres in English and vernacular languages.
The activities include storytelling, poems, sing-a-long, comic and graphic novel reading, music and musical stories and quizzes.
The initiative will reach out to children in Delhi Public School, Andhra School-Pushp Vihar, Springdales-Pusa Road, Mothers International, Shemrock, Cancer Foundation School, Deep Foundation School, KV Vasant Kunj, KV Tagore Garden, KV Shalimar Bagh, MCD School Ramjas Lane, MCD School in Seelampur and many more government schools.
Bookaroo in the City has been co-produced by the Bookaroo Trust, Teamwork Productions and Pratham Books. The initiative is supported by the Essar Foundation.
“We are committed to fostering the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals through a framework comprising education, entrepreneurship and environment. We seek to empower the communities impacted by us with knowledge and inspire innovation. Knowledge is best when shared and therefore our focus is on the ‘Bookaroo in the City’ phase of the event, which makes an effort to reach out to the maximum number of schools,” said Deepak Arora, vice president, Essar Foundation.
