“Ghosh, whose custody period expired today, was produced before the chief judicial magistrate’s court in Midnapore. His term of judicial custody has been extended by the court till Nov 28,” Deputy Inspector General (CID) K. Jayaraman told IANS.

The CID Sep 23 charged Ghosh, along with 57 others, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including murder. He has been in police custody and subsequent judicial custody since Aug 11.

Ghosh was arrested Aug 11 in connection with recovery of skeletons near his house in West Midnapore district in June. Following the recovery, a villager, Shyamal Acharya, filed a police complaint, claiming that one of the skeletons was of his father Ajay Acharya.

The FIR filed in the case claimed that on Sep 22, 2002, Acharya and some other members of the Trinamool Congress were attacked by 40 armed people belonging to the CPI-M, including Ghosh.

Of the 58 people charged, only 18 have been arrested so far. The court declared the remaining 40 as absconders and ordered attachment of their properties after issuing arrest warrants against them.
