P.C. Hamza, General Secretary of WPI, expressed happiness over the release of seven out of the nine Muslim youths wrongly put behind bars for the 2006 Malegaon blast as their bail plea was not opposed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

In a letter to Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram, he asked to take up “this revamping process urgently and seriously in the light of latest Malegaon blast development and complaints from various quarters that there are hundreds of under trials behind bars for years. Regarding most of the under trials, it is claimed that they are wrongly implicated and jailed for no reasons of theirs.”

Mr Hamza said that such exercise will bring “credibility to the investigating agencies and reinforce confidence in the democratic institutions.”

WPI also asked to establish fast track courts to deal with terrorism related cases to avoid long delay.

The Party asked the government to seek unconditional apology for the wrong doing made on the Malegaon youths, to effectively rehabilitate them who spent four years of their precious life in jail and ensure that this will not happen again.

The Party conveyed thanks to all social groups and individuals that extended continuous support and help for the wrongly accused to get bail. The Party hoped that they will be acquitted when the trial is over and will get justice and relief.
