Zardari last month appointed Zaka to replace outgoing chairman Ijaz Butt, a former Test batsman.

“It was pointed out by the British media that Mr.Ashraf was facing corruption charges in the highest court (Supreme Court) of Pakistan. I was really embarrassed to learn this and had no proper answer,” Sarfraz wrote in his two-page letter to the president.

“I understand that the summary moved in this regard may not have indicated the true credentials and suppressed vital facts… I earnestly request you to revisit this case and appoint an honest, dedicated, upright and knowledgeable person as chairman of the PCB. The proposed course of action will save the country from further embarrassment,” said Sarfraz, one of the pioneers of reverse swing.

Dawn reported that a petition filed in the Supreme Court by Zarai Taraqiati Bank Ltd (ZTBL) senior vice president Mohammad Nadeem Chohan accuses Zaka Ashraf of being involved in corruption and committing irregularities and serious violations of the law, besides indulging in favouritism.

Zaka served as the ZTBL president since the 2008 inception of the present government and is also considered a close friend of the president.
