New Delhi: A Delhi Police constable was suspended Friday for molesting a 40-year-old woman in a drunken state after he failed to extort money from her husband in east Delhi, police said.
The constable, identified only as Zafar, was suspended after Delhi Police received a complaint from the victim Friday.
Zafar molested the woman, a resident of Ramprastha Colony at Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, Thursday night at Seelampur in east Delhi.
The victim’s husband was a transport operator before he suffered financial losses. He used to bribe Zafar to avoid legal issues from affecting his business, police said.
The victim’s husband, police said, had informed Zafar about his trip to Seelampur. Zafar asked the victim’s husband to meet him near the Seelampur Gurudwara.
“Her husband left her and their 12-year-old daughter in his Zen Estillo car to meet Zafar. During the course of the conversation, the Zafar apparently demanded Rs.5,000 from him, which he refused,” an officer said.
Incensed at this refusal, police said, the accused officer barged into the vehicle and started misbehaving with the victim, allegedly in a drunken state.
When her husband attempted to intervene, Zafar allegedly struck him several times on his forehead leaving deep injury marks, police said.
“The complainant approached us in the morning. Not only was a case registered, but the constable has also been suspended,” the officer said.
