UFI seeks to set up international exhibition centre in Haryana

Chandigarh : The Haryana government Tuesday announced the setting up of a high-level working group to look into a proposal by UFI, the global association of exhibition industry, for setting up state of the art international exhibition centre in the state.

A UFI delegation, led by its president Manfred Wutzlhofer met Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda here Tuesday and expressed its interest in setting up an international exhibition centre in Haryana.

In response to the proposal, Hooda constituted a working group under the chairmanship of financial commissioner and principal secretary, industries, so as to study the detailed report of the project.

The exhibition centre is likely to be located in the National Capital Region (NCR) in Haryana, adjoining New Delhi. Gurgaon city is likely to be the most likely location for the exhibition centre.

The UFI is the association of trade show organizers, fairground owners, national and international associations of the exhibition industry, and its partners. It has more than 550 members in 84 countries.

Based near Paris in France, UFI was founded in Milan, Italy, April 1925, by 20 leading European international trade fairs. It was named ‘Union des Foires Internationales’ or the ‘Union of International Fairs’.
