Jaipur: A team of Chhattisgarh Police Monday carried out a raid, in search of a Maoist terrorist, at the house of a social activist here with “logistics support” from the local police, a police officer said.
Kavita Srivastava, general secretary of the rights group Public Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), said that a police team barged into her house in early morning hours in search of Soni Sodhi, a woman allegedly involved in Maoist activities in Dantewada.
“We had an arrest warrant issued by a court for the suspect booked under various sections of the Explosive Act and the Indian Penal Code,” a police officer of the team told IANS on condition of anonymity.
“We had a tip-off that the Naxal (Maoist) could be taking shelter in the house in Barkat Nagar,” said the officer.
He added that as they were legally authorised to search the premises, they sought help of the Jaipur police.
However, the raids did not yield any positive results. “We could not find anyone in the house,” said the officer.
Srivastava termed it a breach of her human rights and threatened to launch an agitation.
She accused of the Chhattisgarh government of trying to frame her as she was fighting for human rights across the country.
“Due to the PUCL’s work in Chhattisgarh, I was targeted. I intend to move to court against this outrageous act and launch a country-wide agitation,” she said.
