Bangalore : Former chairman of the Karnataka public service commission H. N. Krishna was arrested Friday for alleged irregularities and malpractice in the selection of candidates for gazetted officers’ posts during 1998-2004, police said.
Krishna, a dentist by profession, is accused of discrimination, fraud and criminal intimidation during the selection of candidates in 1998, 1999 and 2004.
He was the Karnataka state PSC member between 1996 and 2001 and its chairman from 2001 to 2007.
After his term with the KPSC ended, Krishna was appointed as the state information commissioner.
He, however, quit the post Sep 19 after police filed First Information Report to formally begin probe into charges against him.
A police spokesperson said Krishna was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) after its probe established the charges against him.
Expecting that he would be arrested, Krishna had sought anticipatory bail from the high court. His plea was rejected on Sep 19.
