According to media reports, the desecration of Holy Quran was allegedly done during a Durga idol immersion procession on Saturday night (8th Oct.) Local Muslims next morning noticed torn pages of a copy of Holy Quran scattered along the road used by the processionists last night. They gathered and started protesting. The crowd, it is said, was forcefully dispersed by police lathi charge which left many people wounded.

D.S. Habibullah, General Secretary, PFI, Andhra Pradesh said some youths of the Muslim community have been taken into preventive arrest in the name of law and order.
.

“Popular Front of India strongly condemns the heinous act of tearing the Holy Quran by the communal forces & the police discrimination against Muslim,” Habibullah said in a press statement on Monday (10th Oct.).

He also alleged that Chief Minister Mr. N. Kiran Kumar Reddy has completely failed to maintain communal harmony and to establish peace and justice in the State. This is evident from the incidents of Adoni and now Siddipet.

He said that ahead of the forthcoming Rath Yatra of BJP leader L.K Advani, communal forces are trying to ignite communal feelings in many parts of the country. It is said that Advani’s Rath will be crossing the area on 19th Oct.

PFI has demanded the state government to order judicial inquiry of the incident, and establish peace and communal harmony in the state.
