Jammu: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Jammu and Kashmir unit Monday demanded that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah should step down immediately as he has failed to govern the state.
“Omar Abdullah’s political blunders and failure to deliver in the past three years clearly demonstrate that the chief minister has no interest in governing the state, rather he’s interested more in personal power than anything else,” state unit president Shamsher Singh Manhas told reporters here.
The BJP also demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged custodial death of National Conference activist Syed Mohammad Yousuf, accused of taking money from party leaders against assurances of getting them ministerial and legislative berths.
Manhas said it was strange that a man died in custody and still there is no probe into it.
“Chief minister’s judicial probe promise has turned out to be an eyewash as the high court has refused to spare a sitting judge for the judicial inquiry into the incident,” he said.
Yousuf died while in police custody a day after Abdullah handed him over to the crime branch of the state police after the allegations were brought to his notice.
