New Delhi : The government Friday accused the opposition of adopting an “obstructionist” attitude in parliament and said a slew of important legislations slated to be passed in monsoon session have not be taken up due to repeated stalling of proceedings of the two houses.
Addressing media persons here, Law Minister Salman Khurshid said very significant pieces of legislation were pending, noting a bill to set up commercial divisions of high courts was to be taken up in parliament Friday.
He said the bill is a major step towards bringing greater effectiveness in settling commercial disputes and will address complaints about some of legal processes being slow.
Khurshid said the government also plans to introduce land acquisition bill in the monsoon session.
He said he was ?distressed and disappointed? at not being able to deliver legislations to which the government is committed and for which concerned ministries have done all the preparatory work.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal said that 24 bills were intended to be approved in the monsoon session, but only seven had been passed.
He said several significant legislations had not been taken up because of ?wastage of parliament time? and ?obstructionist attitude of opposition”.
The minister said government will try to push through as many legislation in the remaining days of the session which ends Sep 8.
“The most important piece of work for parliament is being relegated to background,” Bansal said.
He said that duration of the present monsoon session was six weeks though it is four weeks normally.
