Amar Singh and two former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs were arrested Tuesday for their alleged involvement in the attempt to bribe MPs ahead of the July 2008 parliament trust vote.

According to Sunil Gupta, public relations officer of Tihar Jail, Amar Singh has made ‘no special demands’ and was following the routine of the other inmates.

“He is in Ward 4 of the jail in a 10ft by 15ft cell. He has been provided a TV but no air conditioner or any other luxury,” Gupta told IANS.

“He is keeping to himself,” added Gupta.

According to the jail authorities, Amar Singh’s neighbour is the former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda jailed on corruption and money laundering charges.

“Amar Singh woke up at around 7:30 a.m. but because he is not well, he has been resting since. He walks around in his cell at regular intervals,” said Gupta.

A routine medical checkup done on Amar Singh Tuesday revealed no major cause for concern, said Gupta.

“He had regular jail food consisting of dal, chapati, sabzi and rice,” said Gupta.
