Chennai : The country’s best two-wheeler riders will be seen in action in the opening round of the 2011 FMSCI-Gulf Dirt Track National Championship to be held at the Polo Grounds in Jodhpur Oct 1-2.
To be conducted by Mumbai’s Sportscraft, the other rounds will be held Nov 12-13, Dec 22-23 and Dec 24, but the venues are yet to be finalised. Points garnered by the riders over the four rounds will determine the National champion.
FMSCI’s CEO Rajan Syal said: “It is indeed heartening to see that this year the event is a National Championship and our thanks to Gulf Oil and Sportscraft both of whom have been promoting motorsports in India for last several decades.”
Dirt track racing has riders, after a mass start, speed around a serpentine track, often slushy at places, looking to cross the finish first. The race is an exercise in judicious manoeuvering and good balance of the bike around the many sharp bends.
Bangalore-based TVS riders Pramod Joshua, HK Pradeep and R Natraj are likely to be the main contenders in the glamour class of the event – Indian Expert class for foreign motorcycles.
The closing date for standard entries was Sep 22 and while for late entries it is Sep 27, according to a press release.
