Kolkata: Former cricketer and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Navjot Singh Sidhu Saturday denied there was any difference of opinion within the party on its prime ministerial candidate, but batted for Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

“No, there is no such thing (difference of opinion). Dada (BJP leader L.K. Advani) is the Bhisma Pitamah of our party. I respect him a lot,” Sidhu said here.

“Why am I being singled out for praising Modi? People often say Rahul Gandhi is their candidate. Why is it that nobody questions them?” he asked.

Heaping lavish praise on Modi, Sidhu said: “Tell me one person who can come near to him when it comes to development. He has turned a ruined and poor Gujarat into a developed and prosperous state. None can match his credentials.”

He also defended his earlier comment where he had equated Modi with Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. “It’s my individual comment, my own soul’s voice and I stick to it. I said whatever I felt like,” he said.

Earlier, speaking at the Gujarat University Convention Centre where Modi sat on a fast, Sidhu said: “We need people like Modi who, like Subhas Chandra Bose, has dedicated his life to the nation.”
